Kippford - Kirkcudbrightshire
Caravans @ Kippford
Kirkcudbrightshire is an area famed for its rugged coastline, lovely beaches, forests and wild moorland as much as for its ancient castles and charming little towns. And nestling amongst it all, just beside the pretty seaside village of Kippford, Kippford holiday park doesn't disappoint either. This beautiful park boasts a rare red squirrel population and has been awarded a David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation.
The park itself does have facilities, but it's not a park of the 'Redcoat' and 'Cabaret' variety. But with plenty going on the local area there's no need to stay park bound unless you fancy a bit of full on relaxation time soaking up the view whilst reading a good book.
Kippford, the local and pretty seaside village is just 15 minutes walk away, and it has two pubs, a chandlery, a public slipway and a sand/shingle beach with spectacular views out over the water. The local environs contain plenty of opportunities for a leisurely stroll, or if you fancy packing a lunch there's some more adventurous coastal paths. Pack your bike as well if you fancy taking advantage of 16km of world class cycle tracks.
The pretty town of Kirkcudbright itself has a few attractions including the Old Jail, the Tolbooth Art Centre and MacLellan’s Castle, set overlooking the wharves on the River Dee. Or, you could take a Tongland Tour – a guided visit to a beautiful art deco power station that includes a walk over the hydroelectric dam and its fish ladder - why do fish need ladders? take a look and you'll find the answer!
If you are a movie buff the there's the nearby village of Creetown famed as the setting for the cult film, The Wicker Man, and even if you're not a movie buff then there's plenty else to do in the area, including boat ride to an island castle and it's gardens, all of which add up to more ways to spend a great vacation in such a beautiful area.
